THE SCANDINAVES ON THE FOOTSTEPS OF AXEL MUNTHE
Viale A. Munthe, Via Finestrale, Boffe, Materita
The route will touch known and lesser known dwellings that have seen the presence of the Scandinavians in Anacapri. Many of them, having left the lands of the North, following in the footsteps of the illustrious predecessor, Axel Munthe, whom so many had dreamed with the pages of his autobiographical novel "The History of Saint Michael", found a place on the island of Capri ideal and mythical which was a source of inspiration, a point of research and a pleasant stay. They lived in castles, towers, villas and common houses. Who were these people traveling to the South, to the lands of the Myth? They were writers, painters, scientists, musicians, researchers and ordinary lovers of classical culture, mediated by Nordic Romanticism. The route will be divided ideally, and on the territory, from east to west: from the enigmatic face of the Sphinx of the Villa San Michele, which captures the first ray of sunshine at dawn, to the vigilant towers of Materita and Guardia that turn red in the light of sunset over the sea
